Venezia [veˈnɛtːsi̯a]) ist eine Stadt im Nordosten Italiens an der adriatischen Küste, Hauptstadt der Region Venetien und der Provinz Venedig.Die Stadt ist eines der beliebtesten touristischen Ziele in Europa und ist auch für ihren Karneval bekannt. Auf der UNESCO-Liste der schützenswerten Kulturdenkmäler des Kontinents liegt Venedig auf Platz 1 - vor Český Krumlov in Südböhmen.Lage und Stadtgliederung Das historische Zentrum Venedigs liegt auf mehreren Inseln inmitten der Lagune von Venedig einige Kilometer nördlich der Mündung des Po. Schon früh unter Führung eines Dogen und seiner verschiedenen Ratsgremien, wie etwa des Kleinen und des Großen Rates, erreichte der venezianische Stadtadel eine Stabilisierung seiner Vorherrschaft in der Stadt durch Handelsprivilegien, Abschließung gegen aufsteigende Familien (1297) und die Einführung von Überwachungsgremien mit fast unbeschränkter Vollmacht (wie etwa dem Rat der Zehn).Es bildete sich die Republik Venedig heraus, die sich im Lauf des 14.
