Mit über 10 Millionen Objekten verfügt das erste Museumsgebäude für prähistorische Archäologie in Deutschland über eine der größten Sammlungen zur Ur- und Frühge-schichte Mitteleuropas. Vorbei an Höhlenlöwe und Mammut, durch Siedlungs-plätze und Jagdreviere erlebt der Besucher die spannende und oft gefährliche Geschichte seiner Vorfahren.Das Landschaftsschutzgebiet Saaletal (2.306 ha) besteht im südlichen Teil aus einer weiten Talaue, die regelmäßig überflutet wird.
