This year the Kuumba Family is focusing on the theme “Locked On Freedom” For the last fourteen years the Locks Conference has promoted self-determination and served as a true community effort and an excellent living example of the Nguzo Saba principles: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity) and Imani (faith). The Locks Conference is cultural, educational and spiritual event which has become a community institution offering informative workshops, knowledgeable speakers, fun-filled, and powerful family activities. These two days are filled with teaching, learning, celebration, and shopping. They provide a wonderful opportunity for the folks to witness the Nguzo Saba principles in action, to be surrounded by positive energy, and to reconnect to like minds. General admission is still only $5.00 for each day.
