Hi Paul!

It's been more than a year since turning myself in a passive mode here on Fotki... The main reason is a tremendous growth of activity at Zorz Studios resulting from greater exposure, increasing referrals and bookings, taking on new artistic projects, travel, establishing a shared location in our Manhattan studio, and active presence on Facebook.

I would love to make a comeback to Fotki to share all the spectacular work we did... but need to allocate time for that - a seemingly impossible task nowadays...

Happy Fourth!

Diz has a question for you and a few of his other favorite camera gurus:

I'm going through images from the Highlands Renaissance Festival up in Kentucky, and while I've got some (in my opinion) decent captures, I am noticing a sort of color-flare phenomenon. I'm not at all sure what causes that, or even what it's called.

I used my telephoto lens a lot (basic Canon 70-300mm, no image stabilization) and tripods at these things always seem more trouble than they're worth, but my shutter speeds were quick enough I'd have thought shake wouldn't be a problem. Have I deluded myself?

Could the temperature have anything to do with it? 100 degrees and 60% humidity all day (miserable? hell yes). The camera was definitely hot to the touch most of the time.

I fiddled with the three different metering modes (average, center-weighted, partial). Might this have caused it?

Or is there some sort of chromatic distortion inherent with this lens?

I'll have the images up later today, but in the meantime I'd love to know what you more experienced sorts can tell me.

I've seen a white balance doohicky that goes (temporarily) over the lens--have you ever tried this? But it's probably easy to just have her hold a gray card or a sheet of white paper with printed text, huh?

Either way, it's time for me to fix my white balance problems!
