Lorne St School kindergarteners in Northridge, CA hold a Pow-Wow every year. The students learn about Native American Indians, what they wore, what they ate, how they celebrated and in so doing learn about different cultures, respect for diversity and the history of our country. Plus it is also alot of FUN!

Have you ever wanted to travel the world... in an evening? Gunstream Elementary hosted it's third annual Multicultural Night. The purpose of the event was to educate our students about different countries. During the event everyone learned about where countries are located, the style of clothing worn, games that are played, traditions and enjoy tasty foods. Each child received their own "passport" to visit 16 countries. All the countries represented families within our school.

On 2/29/2008 Germantown Middle School celebrated Black History month, through a long day filled with activities. Part of it was an assembly titled "International Fair" to celebrate the diversity amongst students. this assembly started with the procession of around 25 flags and welcoming remarks in 25 different languages. This procession ended with our very own start spangled banner and the pledge of allegiance, when I took this piture of my daughter doing the pledge..

Edwards Elementary Schools is a Dual Language Focus school in CO. EES PTA hosts an end of the year party called Union of Cultures. The highlight of the event is always a performance by the Reunion Hispana dancers.

Our school held the first annual "An Evening Around The World: A Taste of Kanawha City Elementary" on February 29, 2008. Each class selected a country. We celebrated and shared our diversity including 11 countries with foods, brief history and clothing/items from each country. We raised money for our School's Technology Fund(to purchase laptop computers, white boards and projectors) and learned about one another's culture. We have 13 different languages spoken in our school and we wanted to share this diversity.

The Stroudsburg District as a whole puts on an event we call "Heritage Day". All the schools families in the district are invited to bring food, music, artifacts and/or items to show off related to their native countries. The food and entertainment are free. We have had it for the past three years and it has been a huge success!

One of the games at the West Allis-West Milwaukee PTA Council Founder's Day Carnival was to throw a football through a hoop. This game was played by some of our district's special needs children. The variety of games were as diverse as the children who played them. Everyone is a winner. You either get a ticket to redeem at the prize redemtion tables, or the consulation prize is the player selects a piece of candy from the school booth volunteer conducting the game.

PTA sponsored multi-cultural fair held in October 2007. More than a dozen countries were highlighted through food, art, traditions, customs, dress. Language translations were done. Children made flag of their country of choice and a "parade of nations" was held. Students entered through a mock Ellis Island area and had their photo passport stamped by the Principal. Students made "All about me" posters to display their own unique heritage.

Cooper Middle School recently held it's annual International Night Festival on March 27, 2008. Over 700 students, families, friends, teachers and Staff attended the festival to celelbrate the cultural diversity of our school community. The evening featured ethnic food, games, booth displays, cultural performances, and crafts. It was organized and hosted by the foreign language department, ESOL department and Cooper MS PTA. Students and families browsed International booths (see enclosed photo), tasted food from "around the world," and enjoyed dance and musical perfromances by students. Games were played including Pelota, greek long jump and Japanese games. Countries which were represented included England, Germany, Spain, Greece, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Lebanon, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Syria, Australia, Argentina, China, Russia, Bolivia, Nigeria, Belgium, France, Iran and Darfur. The Administration and faculty value this annual PTA event because it brings us together as a community to share our cultural heritages, learn more about each other, and have FUN!!
