Fifth Grade students of Otsego Elementary in the Half Hollow Hills School District participate in a day of fun competition with one High School West's student clubs, Athletes Helping Athletes. High school students that are in AHA meet with fifth graders at their elementary school within the district a few times a year. In late May, the fifth graders from all the elementary schools meet at the high school and compete in sporting activities to encourage the fifth graders to want to become involved in sports and healthy living.

This year our annual Wellness Festival was the most successful yet! Our award winning PTSA organized a variety of activities to guide students, their families, and the neighboring community towards learning about living a healthy lifestyle. Activities included a basketball clinic with Mark West from the Phoenix Suns; a Bicycle Rodeo put on by the City of Phoenix Police Department; a bike inspection and repair station put on by a Landis Cyclery, local bike shop; an obstacle course organized by our Physical Education teacher, Mr. Thompson; an onsite mammography unit that serviced 8 women: MOM – Mobile On-site Mammography Inc.; representatives from Phoenix Fire Department which included an ambulance and fire truck the children could explore; and many booths that addressed a variety of health-related issues including: drug and tobacco awareness, Susan G. Komen Foundation breast cancer awareness, Helmet Your Head for head and spinal injuries. We tied all of these events into our ‘Loved Book Sale’ which sells gently-used books for just $0.25 and our ‘Grounds and Gardens Day’ where PTSA members and our local community join together to spruce up our classroom gardens, butterfly and desert tortoise habitats, and our desert pond area.
This day is full of fun activities for everyone and this year we were lucky to be joined by community mascots, the Phoenix Sun's Gorilla and John C. Lincoln Mendy’s Place emergency center’s, Mendy.
