Every year we have a school wide 'Dance Festival'. Each grade learns and performs a dance for the school and parents. I'm always amazed at the teachers and their willingness to not only learn the dance but to dress up as well!!

Mr. Lane is the band director at Germantown Middle School, for over 30 years, students choose band to go through "the Lane experience" with him. Parents support through the band booster is strong, and he keeps strong communication with all parents.
When Germantown Middle School won 4 trophies at a band competition in Atlanta, the whole staduim could feel the excitement of teachers, students, and parents all cheering with Mr. Lane.

Our PTA Fundraiser was a really fun, successful Parent vs.Teacher Softball Game where the Teachers won 10-6! There were several local sponsors along with the individual ticket sales to the game. As you can see, there was a great turn out in participation from both teams!

Last spring, Jefferson Parents and Teachers (JPAT) voted to fund a half time Science Coordinator. Our principal, Mrs Gorthy, developed a job description and hired Lisa Frothingham, an experienced science teacher. Lisa enhances classroom learning with hands on activities and she works closely with our librarian to ensure our current collection supports each science unit. Lisa also started the weekly Science Sleuth question. Students are encouraged to solve the question independently, however, for the primary grades parental assistance if often needed. Each question has several clues and topics are often related to current events, such as the lunar eclipse and St Patrick's Day. To facilitate parent involvement, the questions are posted on the school website. Lisa sorts the correct answers by classroom and each week one winner from each class is announced over the PA system. Even the youngest of students comes home on Monday after the new question is posted saying, "Let's look as the Science Sleuth" or "I know the answer, can you help me write the word?"

Tables were set up around the cafeteria. Each table included an activity that represented a specific character trait. The teachers worked at each table, welcoming students and their parents, who completed the activity together and then received a stamp for doing so. After a certain number of stamps were received the students checked out and received a momento from the evening.

At its first meeting in September the Middle School PTSA announced a PTSA Reads Project aimed at trying to get the middle school kids to focus more on reading and to experience a range of genres. The PTSA is aware that students are reading as part of the middle school curriculum but they wanted to supplement that reading. At each monthly meeting, the parents/students are offered a PTSA Reads reading project of a different genre.
