By increasing the inner diameter, the sensor undercomputes the amount of air flowing to the engine. A corresponding increase in pressure to the fuel system (via a higher pressure fuel pressure regulator) re-establishes the air-fuel mixture. The end result is more fuel, more air, more power, and no programming changes needed for the car.
