NCDOT engineers have said this culvert needs to be replaced because of a sink or hole which on surface of trail some 20+ vertical feet above. However, this hole is over 160 feet north of these culverts. And rocks placed in this hole have remained in place instead of sinking into the hole. As you can see by these photos, the only damage to the culvert is on the west end or outlet of the culverts. There is no visible damage inside either of these culverts.
