Just checked some of your new stuff. You are rapidly becoming Queen of the Macros...the Al Perry of invertebrates. You should publish another book..........of macro shots. Very nice stuff. Be sure to take your ring-flash along on vacation. You never know when it will be raining and you can amuse yourself photographing bugs in your rented chalet.

Mike
----
well, we are not going to rent anything...we are just the two of us Mike and we are staying at hotels all the time...makes us much more flexiible. Normally we rent a big house at nice location, lovely...but the downside is that you cannot leave when the weatherforecast is bad! That is way too expensive then....you pay in advance. I hope there are not too many bugs in the hotels though LOL

I like the HDR pic you played with but since I know you didn't actually autobracket it and just edited it to get different exposures... I feel it is not a true HDR pic. I think you really are going to want to use a tripod and get 3 different exposures or more. You can see in yours that the sky on the right side of the pic is blown out and no editing will get it back for you....
----
yes, you are right....I was trying to find a way around the huge amount of pics I had to take....The initial picture was really bad anyway...so I think it helped but is certainly not a true HDR pic!

Yeah it is very sad, the whole nation was rooting for the poor little bugger. It was so sad seeing it bumping up against all those yachts, but they said it was so weak it had no chance of survival, it was just a matter of how long it would take to die, and how much it would have to suffer being so hungry. A very hard decision to make, but if you don't make it, the poor animal has to suffer more because we are afraid to be criticised for making a decision. I think they did the right thing.

Yeah, they tried everything they could to keep it alive but it was so weak after so long without any food it was cruel to keep it alive just to keep the people happy. It was down in Sydney which is 3 hours drive away for me, so no photos from me. They think they found its mother dead on the beach now too.

Hi Viv,
Thank you for the pep talk and the slap back to reality....................lol
The reason I say slap is because I had to laugh when you said I have to believe in myself or others will not believe in me either, because it is kind of like what I always tell my husband and son, that negative thoughts always bring negative actions. So your right if I do not believe in myself than, they wont believe in me either. Wow your daughter was lucky to have a mom like you. I can bet she has gotten where she is today because you were there beside her cheering her on telling her she can do anything she puts her mind too. I doubt I will make the big time, but IF I ever do there is no way I would ever forget the people here at Fotki and especially you. There is still so much more that can be learned from you and not only through photography, you have a great mind and soul.
I will let you know what happens after the meeting.
Have a great weekend.
Brenda

Oh, and as a side note.... about aperture... in that cadillac ranch photo (the cars in the ground)... I used an f5... and see how out of focus the stars are? My mistake... I didn't know better at the time. If U had used a small aperture, it would've been so much better... and, on top of that, I was using ISO 400... I was a bad boy.

and, stupid me, didn't notice you had a 40D like me... so yes, you can get a cable release... but buy it off e bay for $9 from a guy in Japan.. instead of spending $80 at the camera store...

I forgot to answer two of your questions:

small aperture? Yes, I always advocate the use of a small aperture.... depending on your scene and light, at least go with a f16. If f22 works, do it. Everybody is always amazed at the detail I get in my landscapes... and it is becuase of the smaller aperture, obviously.

Being aware of people moving? Certainly. But again it depends... in the below photo though, I am actually walking around these cars and painting with light while exposing (and Diablo walks through the photo, too) and you don't see me, do you. As long as I don't light myself up, shine my flashlight at the camera, allow my flashlight to be seen from the side as it emits light or stand in one spot too long, the camera does not record me. I also have to make sure Diablo keeps moving, too.

[photo id=wwbgdkdqgqwtbksxwwwrktkqkksw type=vi style=1 align=no link=photo]

and here is a city shot... same thing, I had to go over to the side of the truck to use my green flash to light the interior of the truck while exposing... and paint the store window blue while exposing... but because of all the light sources, I had to be in my first flash position and use the camera timer to start the exposure. Then be quick to get to my second position, change the flash to blue and hit it, then be very fast so as to not leave a ghost image in walking back to the camera to shut it down .

[photo id=wsfbbgdsfbwfdfwxwwwrktkqkksw type=vi style=1 align=no link=photo]

hope that helps.....
